Join 7,000+ readers every week for practical thoughts, tips, and strategies for IB Educators.
This week I want to take a moment to share a few updates about all that is happening in the coming months.
It has been a full, energizing stretch of work, and I continue to be amazed at the commitment educators show when it comes to serving kids well.
A Wonderful Global Workshop Weekend
Last Saturday was another reminder of that. We had folks from all around the world join us for the Effectively Supervising the New Extended Essay. All told, there were 78 attendees from 16 different schools across 12 countries and 6 continents (40 percent of you were returning participants) joining us for three and a half hours of truly thoughtful conversation about this new guidance from the IB.
As we said at the beginning of the workshop, both Kurt and I are huge fans of the new iteration of the Extended Essay. The framework is clearer. The expectations are sharper. The pathways are purposeful and well-designed. And being able to walk through all of that with teachers from so many different countries was a joy for both of us. Also, thank you to those of you who also came to the vibrant Q&A Session on Sunday.
More than anything, thank you for your trust and thank you for spending your weekend learning about how to better support students within this new guidance.
I think this pretty often...
There is something really powerful about thousands of teachers around the world wrestling with the same ideas and trying to find the best way forward for our students. And this new Extended Essay is making us do just that.
If you missed the workshop, the next Effectively Supervising the New Extended Essay workshop will be held on February 7th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Eastern Time. Enrollment opens on December 1st. More news on that in the coming weeks.
The Black Friday Sale is Back...

Upcoming Custom In-Person & Online Trainings
There are also five exciting custom trainings coming up in the next couple of months.
I will be traveling to work with the American School of Barcelona on a two-day on-site visit at the beginning of December. Then Kurt and I will be doing customized Supervisor Trainings on the Extended Essays for Colegio Suizo de Mexico, Pan American School Bahia in Brazil, and Academia Cotopaxi in Ecuador in January, as well as a five-day trip to Hong Kong to work with Victoria Shanghai Academy.
All of these are full faculty trainings that are custom-designed around the IB Core, the new Extended Essay guidance, and best practices for effectively managing all the elements of the Core. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, and Service.
