A Simple Message for This Week...
May 9, 2025
As I was thinking about the topic for this week’s newsletter, I kept coming back to one simple idea—one that I just couldn’t shake.
Take one lesson this week, and dedicate it to one of these ideas…
The truth matters.
Facts matter.
Kindness matters.
Being a good person matters.
Listening matters.
Having integrity matters.
Loving each other matters.
Supporting each other matters.
Having compassion for each other matters.
Having empathy for each other matters.
Taking responsibility for our actions matters.
And for many students—and teachers—this part of the year can be intense.
You’re coming to the end of the year. The to-do lists are long. The stakes feel high. You’re feeling tired. The kids are too. You’re trying to get your Year 1s to a certain part of the curriculum.
And in these moments, emotions are close to the surface.
It all feels really important.
So maybe this week, before launching into another Paper 1 question, or diagram review, or quizlet set… just pause.
And remind your students—and yourself—that there are a lot more important things in the world.
In all of my travels and life experiences, I’ve come to one big conclusion that I hold onto every day:
99.9% of humanity is good.
There is more goodness in this world than not.
There is more kindness in this world than not.
And every day in the classroom is an opportunity to remind students of that. To center them. To uplift them.
So even as you amp up your lessons for the end of the year, be sure to spread that message to those young souls in your classrooms, too.
They need it.
We all do.
Teachers do great things in this world, and we have a lot of power to shape it.
See you next week.
